Since microservices has become a popular style of building distributed software systems, security—including access control for web APIs—has often been a secondary concern. A variety of different security mechanisms—many borrowed from previous software architectures—have been employed to address different pieces of the access control puzzle, resulting in an incoherent patchwork of approaches. In this talk, Rob Wilson reviews the pros and cons of current approaches, and proposes a unified, multi-platform approach to API access control in a microservice architecture.
